Unique Prescription Security Code (UPSC): What It Is

The Unique Prescription Security Code (UPSC) comes up constantly in searches, usually from people who have just been told they need one. Here is what it is, straight from PhilHealth’s own rules.

Short answer: the UPSC is a computer-generated code that uniquely identifies your GAMOT prescription. It is generated by the GAMOT App when your doctor issues the prescription — at the clinic, not at the pharmacy.

The official definition

PhilHealth Circular PC2025-0013 defines it as:

“Unique Prescription Security Code (UPSC) — a computer-generated code which provides a unique identifier to a GAMOT prescription issued by an authorized physician.”

It is printed on your PhilHealth GAMOT Prescription slip, alongside the date, your name, and the medicines prescribed.

Your prescription is valid for 90 days

This is the question we get asked most. Under the same circular:

  • A GAMOT prescription remains valid for 90 days from the date of prescription.
  • Prescriptions are automatically cancelled in the GAMOT App after 90 days. After that you need a new consultation.

You do not have to collect everything at once

Medicines can be dispensed as a partial or complete course. If some of your prescription is still undispensed, it remains valid for subsequent visits to any GAMOT Facility until the full quantity is dispensed — within that 90-day window.

One exception in the circular: anti-infectious medications (antibiotics) must always be dispensed in full. That is a clinical safeguard — partial courses drive resistance.

What to bring

  • Your GAMOT Prescription slip, which carries the UPSC.
  • If you do not have the physical slip: the circular allows you to provide the UPSC and any government-issued ID card to the GAMOT Facility.
  • If someone is collecting on your behalf: an authorisation letter, the UPSC, and valid government-issued IDs for both the representative and yourself.

Who can issue or fix a UPSC

TrueMed cannot issue, look up, reset, or reissue a UPSC. We are a private GAMOT-accredited botika — we receive the code, we do not create it. If your code is missing or unreadable, go back to the clinic that did your consultation.

If a pharmacist finds an inconsistency on a prescription, the circular allows them to confirm its authenticity directly with the prescribing physician.

Once you have it

Bring the prescription to a GAMOT-accredited facility. TrueMed is one — browse the medicines we stock, read how the GAMOT benefit works, or see how YAKAP and GAMOT fit together.
